Donkey Head - A poem by Bernard Rudden
A poem about A kid I saw wearing a donkey head in New York
donkey head
now you’re wearing
a donkey head
crossing
delancey street
straight from
the airport
where the up
‘n down escalators
were like everything
come/go in your life
n’ wantin’ it a
no-come/no-go
an’ you might have
taken something
but you can’t remember
an’ you feel good
with your donkey head
struttin’ on delancey
the only “real ass”
on this planet!
and traffic’s in your eyes
sparkling
and a girl / boy too
and your hopin’
its ain’t a hit n’run thing
this time
your birthday
‘n your little jesus beard
crossing on delancey
wearing your donkey head.
